the primary goal was keeping my dog from gulping water - achieved. Cleaning the bowl? not so good. the floating insert allows water to get in it (it's two pieces, not one). when there is water inside, is that good? probably not, but getting the pieces apart is not fun. you need a knife or similar to wedge in there and get the two pieces to separate. blatant design flaw. Other than that one issue related to cleaning it, the bowl works wonderfully. the plastic seems less grimy than when our dog had a stainless steal water bowl, so that's an improvement. My cat has knocked over every water bowl I’ve ever got for him except for this one, the little bastard tries like hell, but only manages to pull the top connecting ring off, which is not a huge deal. He does manage to splash the water a little, but not too much.I've gone from an abhorrent amount of water on my floor– to droplets. I cannot explain how much water and DROOL my wonderful (but also gross) dog used to leave around. I have had this water bowl about three full days now. It's easy to fill, easy to clean, dishwasher safe. It does not skid across the floor. The cats even seem to enjoy it, because they can 'poke up' 'fresh' water with their bean pads. My sole, singular problem with this water bowl is that it is not ginormous. I think that counts against it because the dog owners with the biggest water problems tend to have... *large* dogs. However, this bowl is accessible for my significantly smaller dog (14lb) so as a bowl serving a whole family, it fulfills its function perfectly. All in all, 4 rock solid stars. Would recommend to literally anyone with a drooling, sloppy dog.We got this water bowl to replace one that our puppy kept tipping over and getting water everywhere. It's worked great and now don't have any water spills at all.Our cat would tip over or splash in every water dish or bowl we tried. It was driving me crazy cleaning up the water constantly. Tried this and it finally solved it! No more water on the floor. THe only issue is the snap ring isnt really tight, so he pulls that off in an attempt. but if stayed on he might be able to pull it over.I have three very heavily bearded/mustachioed rat terriers. As you can imagine the floor is quite a mess. This was never a big problem when they used to drink water in the garage… But now they drink in the kitchen on hardwood laminate and I’ve nearly slipped and broken my freaking neck several times. This dish seems to have mostly solved the problem! The terriers are all just under 30 pounds, a little chonky, but they vary in degrees of confidence, fearfulness and (sadly), smarts. The good news is that all three of them, after about two weeks, have figured out how to use this bowl effectively. The owner on the other hand keeps pouring too much water into it!!! Hopefully I am trainable. ?*Update: Seller reached out to me and provide me a new replacement for broken part- I’d recommend this product and seller. The ring part is not durable, mine was broken after a week.Reached out to vendor, nobody reply.I have mixed feelings about this product. It does was it intends to do by preventing too much water access at once (I have a lab mix who gets more water on the floor than in her mouth). HOWEVER, if you have a dog that is adamant about drinking a lot at once and they figure out the float mechanism, it doesn’t make that much of a difference. Other cons for me are that it is pretty small and I have to refill it several times a day although I do have three dogs. An easy solution would be to keep two bowls of water down but con number 2: it’s such a hassle to clean I wouldn’t want to clean two of these constantly. I have to pry the float device apart with a butter knife to clean it properly and you really should be cleaning it often since water gets trapped where it can mold. Overall, I don’t think it’s best for my specific needs but it may be exactly what someone else is looking for.I bought this for my 12 week old gsd puppy. The water didn’t come through the holes fast enough for her so she put her foot in it and pressed the float down. Excited by this she brought the second foot into play and the retaining float ring flipped out allowing all the parts to be disassembled and water to go everywhere. The whole thing is easy to clean and assemble but the design is flawed as being square the four retaining points are required to be very shallow and offer very little resistance to the top bit coming off. A far better design would have been to make it circular so that the top retainer could then have been a rotating circular push down and twist affair allowing larger and stronger lugs, of greater number, to keep it in place. (A kind of bayonet arrangement) as it is, there are only four points holding it on and it relies on the plastic to flex, which it does quite easily. It is very light when there is little water left so easy to turn over. The idea sounds great but it needs more work and comment from our furry friends before this will pas muster!Bought this as my puppy liked to paw her old water bowl and thought this might stop her. It didn’t, it got worse! By pushing down the float with her paws she created a greater pressure so water gets higher up the walls and when she gets bored of this she pulls out the securing ring, lays in the puddle and chews it (good job I’ve got the spare). To top it off she sees me coming so sits and offers me a paw hoping for a reward in exchange for how clever she is. Decided no good for inside so now it is outside where she can make as much mess as she likes. Not a chance I’m going to try this in my car for travel. To be fair to the bowl though we are now on our fourth different style of water bowl and none have stopped her pawing completely, so the positive would be my floors are nice and clean from all of the mopping.I can't believe I bought two of these drinking bowls with the extra floaters... almost £70.00! Within a day they have a build up of bacteria and they absolutely stink! Also, the floater gets full of water as not sealed and you have to prise them apart with a knife to empty the water out. My Cocker Spaniel puppy got gingivitis at under one year of age and I believe it is from the bacteria build up from these bowls as since I swapped them for Advance Pet Product Heavy Stainless Steel Flat Bucket,1 Quart Flat, as recommended by her very experienced breeder, her gums are now getting back to normal. I have now bagged them up and thrown them in the dustbin. A very expensive mistake. DO NOT BUY!!!
